Louie 100% Long Haired Labrador Genes

Even though he may not look like it, Louie really is a Labrador Retriever! We tested his genetics to confirm he was 100% Labrador. We also tested his mother for genetics and confirmed she is 100% Labrador and she carries 50% of the long haired Labrador gene. Therefore, when she is bred to another Lab with any long haired genes, there is a very small chance she will produce a long haired pup.

Our Kate was bred to HRCH Torg’s Hunting Memories, MH, “Tanner” twice: 2017 and 2015. Both litters (7 & 10 pups) produced 2 puppies that were long haired. Since we know Kate is 50% long haired, we can assume Tanner also has a strong percentage of long haired genes or we would not have had a total of 4 long haired puppies out of 17 from the same sire and dam.

All looks aside, Louie is an incredible hunter. He trained very quickly and ranges nicely in the field. Steady to shot, he is a strong retriever and works hard to seek and find the birds. Louie works well in the water and just won’t quit. He is an incredible companion and such a pleasure to hunt with. It is so rewarding to see the best traits of the sire and dam carried into their offspring….the long haired genes are overlooked and ignored until he goes into the water!
