Decoy came to us in January of 2008. He added a terrific Champion and Junior Hunter titled pedigree with ancestors from the  United States, Canada, England and Sweden and his genuine Labrador disposition to our kennel! Before he came to us, Decoy had been dedicated to the show ring and he was one of 40 champions in the last 5 generations of his AKC pedigree.

Decoy showed us that he would have been happy to have been a hunter and do water retrieving. He easily went into our lakes even when there was snow on the ground and he roamed the fields with a natural ranging motion.  He worked well with other dogs and had a calm, hard worker disposition.

He has produced some great pups for us. Two of his pups from Victoria, “Gibson” and “Gracie”, and one from Shirley, “Halle”, completed training with Paws for Freedom (which is no longer in service as of 2018) to become handicapped assistance dogs. Halle continued to work for Paws for Freedom in their S.T.A.R.T. Program; Student Trainer and Retriever Teams partnership program. Paws for Freedom also offered animal-assisted therapy to youths with learning disabilities.  We kept Bert out of Victoria and Decoy in our kennel to work for us in the field and water.

We are very proud to have had Decoy in our kennel. He has been used as a stud in the following litters: Katherine 2010 ,Victoria 2011, Shirley 2011, and Elizabeth 2013, Annie-Decoy 2021.  We also used Decoy as stud to Annie in 2021 and look forward to the 14 out of 30 Champions and Junior Hunters in his pedigree combined with her 9 out of 60 British & Irish Field Trial Champions in her pedigree to have just the right amount of build and drive to become the labs the owner wants them to be…  Due in May.  Time will tell.

We really miss the “show ring” hugs that Decoy shared with such joy and glee! We see so much of him in the pups he has helped produce!  He is greatly missed!
